BarNet has just released a new and improved version of JADE – our legal research solution designed by barristers for barristers.

Signing up is free and only takes a few moments.

BarNet’s JADE (Judgments and Decisions Enhanced) is a unique legal research solution for legal professionals.

JADE is designed to make it easier to get the information you need, when, where, and how you want it.

If you have not tried JADE before or if you have not tried it for a while please try it out the new version and tell us what you think.

JADE automatically collects all the recent decisions of selected Australian Courts and Tribunals into an enhanced system with special facilities. Most significantly, this gives you:

•daily email alerts of all decisions tailored to your practice areas;
•the ability to mark cases for rapid recall;
•the ability to annotate and highlight passages of cases for later reference, including printing these for use in Court; and
•one click access to the case at the original site.

BarNet is 8

In March 2008, BarNet turned 8. Our free support offering to all Barristers and Clerks was extremely successful.
[ Download information sheet ]

During the whole of March, our users were able to call BarNet to book in for a free “preventative maintenance” service for your all of your chambers computers.

We visited your Sydney CBD chambers, conducted a quick survey and then undertook a series of maintenance and update tasks.

As you would expect from BarNet's attention to detail: we also looked at any niggling computer problems you reported and gave some training.

While the offer is now closed, to take advantage of the services offered, simply call the BarNet help desk on 02 8815 9090 or send us an email to info@barnet.com.au. To ensure that the service visit is efficient and to make sure that we send the right support team member, we will ask you some questions about your set up prior to the visit.

Using advanced technologies, we can even perform remote support.

Your response to the introductory holiday offer to trial 3 Mobile USB mobile broadband devices was overwhelming.
So much so that BarNet will continue to make these units available to members for short term use. The cost is low - $5 for a day or $20 for a week. Holiday users successfully achieved high speed connections in Hong Kong, the UK, and locally.

Back at work, the devices are even more useful. You can take one to court for high speed Internet access at the bar table, for example. We have a number of units already reserved for this purpose.

Think about using a device while next on Circuit or trial one at home.

BarNet Spam Block Report

Many of you will have received your first Blocked Email Report from the new BarNet Spam Blocker reporting service today. The idea behind this service is to give you increased information about, and control of your email.

You may be aware that BarNet deploys a range of techniques to identify and cut off spam, and any harmful viruses, before they infiltrate your system. We also want to ensure that you receive all your genuine mail without delay.

If we detect and block any potentially harmful mail addressed to you, you will now receive a daily email report from the BarNet Spam Blocker. This report will list the blocked addresses sending suspect emails to you. If you are confident about these senders, you will have the option to allow future emails from those addresses through the anti-spam system. You will not be offered this option for emails identified as containing viruses.

To allow mail to come through, you will simply need to click on the "unblock" link next to the relevant mail and you will be taken to a screen that allows you to confirm that you wish to receive mail from this address. You will only need to do this once - after that confirmation, all mail which we receive for you from that address will go straight to your mail box.

For a more detailed explanation of the key reasons why mail is identified as spam and the possible problems associated with that mail you can refer to our documentation page.

If you have any questions about this service or have ideas for improvements we would be very happy to hear from you. You can call us on (02) 8815 9090 or email us at info@barnet.com.au
